A Grand Exit

Side note: It turns out I have both a sinus infection and bronchitis - No wonder I felt so bad! I'm now on 2 antibiotics and a couple other medicines, so I should be on the mend. Thanks for the well wishes!

I really thought I originally wanted sparklers for our exit after our reception, just so we could get pictures like this:

But when I thought more about it, I realized I wasn't thrilled with the idea of intoxicated adults and wild children waving fire close to my hairsprayed head or my dress. And then I started finding pictures of bubble send offs and I decided I liked them even more than the sparklers:

(You know I had to include some Anne Ruthmann!)

And with bubbles, we could do our send off after the ceremony rather than after the reception since it wouldn't need to be dark. I think the outside of the church would be a much easier (and prettier) location for the send off. Michaels, among other places, has bubble wands, and they're fairly reasonably priced with 40% off coupons:

I also found these from the Wedding Channel store that I think are adorable:

How cute would those be with a damask ribbon tied around them? They're actually on sale right now for $5.99/48 of them!

I'll probably have them in a basket next to the door, so our guests can grab one on their way out. I've seen people use clear address labels to add a little message, which is cute:

That particular one says, "Blow bubbles of good wishes for the Mr. and Mrs." and has their wedding date. I haven't decided if I'll do that or just put a sign by the basket (which would be a lot less work!) I like that this is a project I can get done ahead of time, though. I love being able to check things off my to do list!

Are you planning to have a grand exit? What will you be using?

  1. We're doing bubbles too! They look so good in pictures.

Oriental Trading has the personalized ones as well, I'm not sure if it's a better price or not though.

  2. I want bubbles too! Although I love both ideas equally! May be a way to incorporate both sans intoxicated people?!

  3. Laura Lou, love the look of bubbles! We had some out but people kinda forgot to use them. I also made ribbon wands and our wedding party waved us in - those were cool.

  5. Very cute. I know we're definitely doing bubbles for our exit, and I'm planning on buying those sometime in the near future. I'd really like to do a sparkler one as well because it makes for some awesome pictures, but I don't know yet. I'm sure my mom will think it's an unnecessary expense, and it kind of is. And then there's the fact that I don't know how many people will actually still be there until the very end of the night.
    We'll see!

p.s. I hope you get better =] I just had a sinus infection over break too and it was horrible. And I know how you feel on the bronchitis because I've had it twice already this winter!

  6. We're going for something fun and personal for our exit. It has to do with my fiance's profession (pilot), but we don't want to give it all away - we want it to be a surprise for our guests.

Bubbles are very fun! They look great in photos, too!

  7. Wanna hear something funny?

...I have an irrational fear of bubbles landing on me.

    LOL! I have issues!

  8. I love the idea of a grand send-off! We were planning on doing sparklers (since we were leaving at night), but I just completely ran out of time and that was one of the things that had to be sacrificed (for my sanity). If you have a day-time exit, I think bubbles are a great way to go!

  9. We aren't doing a big send-off, but if we did, I LOVE the look of sparklers for an evening wedding. Even if I am kind of afraid of them. :)

    Your blog is super cute!!
