'Tis the Season

I'm continually on the lookout for heartfelt, yet inexpensive ideas for Christmas gifts. I have 5 siblings and David has 3, so the amount we spend on gifts always adds up really quickly.

Every year, my mom buys each of her six kids an ornament. Usually they all coordinate, but there's a unique one for each of us. I've always loved getting ornaments, and I think they make great gifts, so I was so excited when I came across a cute (cheap!) idea. I don't think I've shared this yet, but all 3 of my sisters (including my brother's wife - I blogged about their wedding!) are pregnant! I wanted to come up with gifts that recognized that, and I thought these were perfect:

Both my brother and my SIL are huge KU fans like David and I, so I decided to use their colors. They don't know the sex of the baby yet, so they obviously haven't told us a name, so the 'baby' ornament doesn't have an initial, but I can add one later.

The glass ornaments are from Michaels (and are 50% off right now!), as are the letter stickers and ribbon. The shredded paper is from Dollar Tree. I didn't use nearly as much paper as I thought they would. The bags are still almost completely full after making 3 ornaments. One tip I have is to use a pencil or something to spread out the paper once you get it in the ornament. It looks much better if it's not all stuck together.

I plan on using some Christmas-y shredded paper for one of my other sister's ornaments, but you could use any color you wanted. And if you're looking for a gift for newlyweds (or an ornament for your first married Christmas!), you could use a wedding invitation. I've seen a similar idea before on Weddingbee, but you could easily make it the same way I made these.

Since the ornaments are 50% off right now, it's an even better deal. Here's a cost breakdown:

Ornaments (4 large, 6 small) - $4.00
Shredded Paper (2 bags-Enough for all 10 ornaments) - $2.00
Ribbon - $1.50
Stickes - $3.00

Total - $10.50
Cost per ornament - $1.05

You can't beat that! I think they'll love them, and they're so easy and inexpensive to make!

Are you trying to find inexpensive cute gifts? Where do you look for inspiration?
