A Little Something for My Ladies

If you are part of my bridal party and happen to be reading this, don't read any further! You'll ruin the surprise, and you don't want to do that, now do you? Love you all! :)

A couple months ago I was browsing at a small boutique (with BM S and MOH A, actually!) and happened to find several Mindy Weiss bridal items. So many of them were so cute, but I especially liked the bridesmaid wish necklace:

The idea is that you give them to your bridesmaids and they make a wish when they put them on. They're on a fairly delicate chain, so when the necklaces fall off, they're supposed to make a wish. I loved them, but at over $9 each (for a necklace that is meant to break/fall off eventually) and with 6 ladies in our bridal party, I wasn't sold. I decided to look into DIYing the necklaces.

I looked first at Hobby Lobby (of course) and found they have delicate, pretty chains for $1.99! I decided to try the 18" length first, which ended up being perfect. They also have small silver heart charms for $1.47. Perfect! I bought one of each and this was the result:

And here's a dorky picture of me modeling the length:

(Tired much? I must really love you guys.)

I remembered Mrs. Apple Cider's DIY earring holders, and wanted to do something similar, so I came up with this:

And turned it into this:

The text reads: "Forever friends I know we'll stay; Thanks for sharing in our special day!" and "Make a wish when you put of this gift just for you; When your necklace falls off, your wish will come true!"

I printed out the design on fairly heavy cardstock, cut it out, and then backed it with craft foam to make it sturdier. I made small cuts on either side to string the necklace through to hold it in place. I think I'll tie a ribbon bow around it instead of finding some type of package for it to fit in.

I think they turned out so cute, and since I'll buy the rest of the chains and charms when they're 50% off, they'll end up being less than $2 each, as opposed to $9 each! My ladies will be able to wear them for the wedding if they want to, but I'm going to leave it up to them. I was originally going to make them pink necklaces, but I think I'll make them bracelets instead and let them choose their own necklaces.

Don't you love when DIY attempts at something you love turn out better than you expected? What are you doing for your bridesmaids' jewelry?

  3. What a great BM gift! They are so cute! It is a gift they will actually use!

Since I never wear the jewelry I have from the two weddings I was in, I am going to let my girls wear whatever they want. I decided to get them a makeup bag, makeup, and a french manicure set.
