Opposing Opinions

For the past week or so, David and I have been looking at house listings online. (Yay!) It's been so exciting picturing us in our first home and thinking about having a house to move into after the wedding instead of an apartment or duplex. While it's been fun, it's made one thing very clear: We have entirely different tastes and almost completely opposite opinions.

David definitely likes older houses with lots of brick, like these:

And I like a completely different style:

Although we do both like this style in a really cute older part of town:

It will definitely take some compromsing from both of us to make a decision on something this big. I think we're pretty similar when it comes to big, important things (goals, future plans, religious views, politics, whatever) but there are some areas where we couldn't be more different! And wedding (and life after wedding) planning is really bringing that out.

Have you experienced this? What decision made you realize how different your opinions/tastes are?

  1. Oh girl how I can relate! While we also have the same opinions on faith, politics, values, etc...Mr Fix It and I do not have the same taste in anything! Not clothes, housewares, appliances, furniture, paint colors, carpeting ideas, etc. He doesn't like most of what I've got planned for the wedding and I am dreading heading out to the department stores tonight to try to register - UGH! It has really come out lots since he has started remodeling his house in preparation for my daughter and I to move in. I have learned that since this house will one day be a rental and not our 'dream' house, I pretty much let go of the design opinions when he asks me for feedback. I just lovingly tell him that it looks nice and I trust his opinions. It really is a matter of give and take...I am seriously concerned about several years down the road when we *DO* start looking for our dream house.

Hang in there...and pray that something comes along that has enough 'pros' for both of you that you can get past each other's 'cons.'

  5. Such an exciting time in life! We have also been talking about buying a house but haven't done anything to drastic yet. Ah...now I'm a little worried about B and I agreeing haha. I haven't even thought about it. Good Luck with everything and I'll keep you all in my prayers.
