Pomander Love

I love the look of pomanders! I've seen several tutorials done on multiple wedding blogs I read, so I won't post a new one, but I wanted to share with you how mine turned out in case you want to use similar supplies. I looked and looked for reasonably prices flowers that were relatively large (so they would take up more space which equals less time!) and somewhat realistic looking. The flowers I ended up using were white mums (actually in the fall floral section) from Hobby Lobby. They're on sale this week for 50% off, which makes it $6 for a bunch. Each bunch has about 15 flowers, which covered about 3/4 of a 5" ball. It ended up pretty big, so I'm going to make one more that's 5" and then use 3" balls for the rest of them. The flowers look like this, except they're white:

I knew the styrofoam balls were pretty pricey, so I found them online here, which I blogged about in my entry about the centerpieces. I got the box over the weekend, but haven't had time to go through it yet, so I'll update again about their quality. The ball I used for the trial run was just from Hobby Lobby.

I made a hole through the center of the ball to thread the ribbon through it. I didn't have any glue sticks, but I'd recommend using hot glue on the end of ribbon (at the bottom of the ball) to make sure it doesn't come out.

Mostly done:

And the finished product:

I took the picture against the white door so you could see that the flowers are closer to a cream or off-white color. I'm using the pomanders as aisle decor and there won't be anything white next to them, so I'm not worried about the color difference, but they may not work for everyone. It was a pretty easy project - I just have to figure out how to hang them along the aisle as there are no pews (I guess I should probably blog about the church we've finally decided on!). I think we'll be able to use shepherd hooks secured to the chairs. The chairs are the kind that have iron frames and hook together to form rows, so I think they should be sturdy enough to hold the shepherd hook if it's secured with wire or something. We'll just have to see!

Anyone have any other ideas for hanging them along the aisle?
